Staffing formula

The calculator converts demand into labour hours, then divides those hours by the regular working time available per person.

People needed = demand ÷ rate per person ÷ regular hours

Before scheduling overtime

  1. Confirm the per-person rate reflects the actual job and product.
  2. Check whether a machine or material constraint—not labour—is the real bottleneck.
  3. Compare overtime cost with moving work, changing sequence or adding trained support.
  4. Allow time for startup, breaks and cleanup when those are not already in the productivity rate.
