A useful update answers three questions

  1. Did the work meet the plan?
  2. What changed the result?
  3. What needs to happen next?

Write a stronger report

Use facts before opinions. Name the task, time and impact when possible. Replace “the project had problems” with “Client feedback arrived two hours late, so the final review moved to tomorrow.” Keep next priorities specific enough that someone can act without finding you first.
